ANDY ROOSEN
Thank you to all who attended the course on Saturday
at Nottingham University
Andy Roosen, 5th Dan, was visiting from the Soloman Islands where he is now living. It was good to welcome Andy back to the UK and we hope it will be one of many courses we can put on together.
GROUND WORK (Ne - waza)
We will hold workshops looking at this in depth in the near future.
As part of the dan grade syllabus we
are working on ways to master the transitions from
standing techniques to ground techniques to introduce
the basics of control and how to maintain a superior
position on the ground. As with all aspects you need to get
your opponent into a vulnerable position. As you
practice the techniques on the ground try to
maintain a sense of fluidity by staying relaxed and using your strength to your fullest
advantage. Try to control at least one part of
your opponent then work to expand your control.
Flexibility in applying techniques is the key.
JU JITSU
Darren Kershaw 3rd
Dan Ju JitsuDarren is helping to expand our syllabus
at Frederick Gents Sports Centre South
Normanton, so we can all benefit from
sharing knowledge of our respective martial
art. Darren has been involved in martial arts for 14 years, mainly in Ju Jitsu under instruction from Sensei Bob Sims 5 th Dan (Shin Ki Ju Jitsu Club), through teaching his students the various forms of Ju Jitsu, i.e. throwing, joint locks and take downs.
Hopefully we will gain a deeper understanding of Ju Jitsu and incorporate it into our system.
