CLUB REQUIREMENTS
At Golden Valley Karate Club, the objective is to promote the concepts and values contained within the martial arts, such as the importance of mind, body and spirit working in combination, to develop humility, respect, self respect, integrity, balance, and endeavour.
These are all aspects of a true martial artist and as such are aimed at in Golden Valley. These concepts and values can then be taken into everyday life. We teach students the latest research in biomechanics and sports science, combined with the best traditional training to ensure the safety and progress of all students, senior and junior alike.

Upon entering the centre, students should proceed to the changing rooms to change for class, or to the Dojo. No shoes, socks, coats, etc. are to be left in the reception area. Take all items into the Dojo. No outside shoes to be worn in the Dojo. Water must not be placed on the Dojo floor - any spillages must be cleaned up immediately.
Students must arrive for class on time. It is suggested that you arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to your scheduled class time. This will allow time for changing. Students should wait outside the Dojo in the reception area until instructed to enter.
Bow when entering or leaving the Dojo There will be seating for the parents and others to watch the class inside the training area. Please maintain quiet in the spectator area in the Dojo.
Noise distracts the instructors and students and prevents maximum benefit from the classes. Those who wish to chat, or have a drink, should go to the reception area. No horse-play, loud talk, or foul language in any part of the Dojo. Keep fingernails and toenails short; do not wear watches and jewellery during class. Always address your instructor in the dojo using the term "SENSEI" or Sir or Miss, as appropriate. During class, pay attention and respond quickly to instructions without hesitation and never argue with your instructor.
Show enthusiasm, spirit, and good sportsmanship at all times. Always wear your complete gi unless specified otherwise by the sensei and wash your gi regularly. When working with others, always start and end with a bow. The club is able to provide a number of hand, arm and shin pads for use by students during training. However, it is strongly recommended that students acquire their own equipment, which should be brought to each class.
If you do arrive late for class, step up to the training floor, bow, and wait for the instructor to signal to you to enter the class. If you must leave early, please notify the instructor prior to the start of class. Parents are responsible for their children at all times when at the facility.
Leaving students unattended during class time under direction of a certified club instructor is permissible. Spectators and non-member children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
All students training at Golden Valley Karate Club are required to register with the club, and to hold a current license. Grading examinations are usually held at three to four month intervals, depending on progress during this period.
To be able to grade, members must have a current licence. 9th to 5th Kyu students must train at least twelve times in the period leading up to the grading and also have a regular attendance record. 4th to 1st Kyu students must train at least twenty times in the period leading up to the grading and also have a regular attendance record.
Dan grades are expected to attend most of the training opportunities leading up to their grading. All rules and criteria in the grading syllabus must be adhered to. Please check the web site for details.
